Killarney Raceway - Cape Town
Racing at Killarney, Cape Town, South Africa. Racing is the best way to prove (and improve) the breed. So far in 2008, the Type 5 has raced at two meetings at Killarney, Cape Town. In the first meeting, a loose radiator hose lead to a failed head gasket, which put an end to the weekend’s festivities before they began. Red faces all round!

At the second meeting, the Type 5 raced in 2 different events (4 heats) with two different drivers. The car ran perfectly in all the races, achieving a Class win (in the wet) and a 2nd place in the sports and GT event after being beautifully driven by local racing legend, Dave Kopke. The other driver was driving his first race EVER, and was delighted just to bring the car home intact! He was completely stunned by the experience and found the level of concentration required to be extraordinary. Needless to say. He will be back, but in his own Type 5, and in the not too distant future! Watch this space for more.
In Cape Town, class is reserved for Road Legal sports cars which do not race faster than 1m 28s on the circuit. The cars must use road legal tyres and have all equipment fitted necessary for road use. This has suited the Type 5 perfectly as it has been driven to all the races, in true clubman spirit. The car raced 4 times during the year and achieved 3 class wins and a second place.

Endurance Racing
Type 5’s will compete in the 2 Hour at Killarney in July, and the 3 Hour in Port Elizabeth at the end of 2008. Endurance racing is what the Type 5 is all about. Well engineered and easy to drive cars tend to feature well in Endurance Racing where finishing is far more difficult than in sprint events.

Track Days
As and when track days are scheduled to be held at Killarney, the Type 5 will be available for those interested in experiencing it first hand. The next track day is scheduled for the 18th of May. Laps will cost R50 as a passenger. Please enquire about driving the Type 5 yourself as this can be arranged.

The first customer car will be on display on the 18th, and it will be a big occasion to have the first two Type 5’s on track together!
