A long way but worth it.

As if a 1500km road trip wasn't enough, we threw in a full day of racing and got a result! 1st on Index in the 1 Hour, a fantastic achievement.

Last weekend, Craig Harper packed his gear into his Type 5, and with some friends, drove to Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape and back. This is a round trip of over 1500km (nearly 1000 Miles). Not only that, and in line with his mission statement that Type 5's should be driven to race tracks and then raced hard, he entered both LUK coastal Challenge races as well as the 1 Hour Endurance event. His Type 5 finished the Coastal challenge races in 6th position and the 1 Hour Endurance in 5th place. Both races had over 25 entries and featured some seriously powerful cars.  But the most satisfying result was 1st place on index in the 1 Hour. The car ran perfectly and consistently fast to achieve this result.

In fact, the circuit in Port Elizabeth seems perfectly suited to the Type 5 as it suits a sweet handling chassis. There are several corners that reward a confident driver, and that confidence can only come from a car that handles predictably and communicates everything to the pilot.

When Craig originally penned the Type 5, he had his sights firmly set on Endurance events. The car has a large fuel tank and can run for over 90 minutes without refilling. The brakes were conistently strong throughout and the car really felt like it could go on all night. Only the rear tyres were getting worn down thanks to the abrasive nature of the surface.

With a 3 hour race scheduled for November in Port Elizabeth, and the prospect of 3 Type 5's at this event, this is one event you don't want to miss.

This was surely the only road legal car to achieve this result, and a testament to the practical nature of this amazing Sports/ racing car.
