Never Assume...

When my engine was rebuilt, I decided it needed more power. Part of the upgrade are some new cams. So why didn't the power improve...read on...

My engine has been rebuilt and uprated to deliver more power. I am trying out some new camshafts that we had cut locally. The Cam manufacturer assured me that with a standard head (Uncut) , the standard pegs could be used- the timing would be spot on. However, the engine just didn't feel right- nice torque delivery but never any major fireworks. The Dyno confirmed this with average power and torque numbers.

So, back to the cams we went- checking the timing data for these camshafts revealed that on the standard pegs, these cams were way out, with almost no overlap at all. This has been remedied now, the cams set up correctly. The engine sounds dramatically different now, idle s poorly and feels lumpy and rough in the upper rev range- This is excellent news as it means the air demand has now changed significantly  which further means that the fuelling and possibly timing are now way off. A session on Hermans Dyno is will remedy this and will hopefully give us the Power we are seeking.

Lesson to myself- never assume, always double check. When will I ever learn!?
